Joc Pederson hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning just before a power-outage delay, and the Los Angeles Dodgers returned to finish off a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday.
The game was paused for more than 20 minutes as Dodger Stadium temporarily was plunged into total darkness. Edwin Rios and Will Smith hit home runs after the game resumed.
In his bid to earn a starting role in the opening round of the playoffs, rookie right-hander Tony Gonsolin (2-2) gave up four runs on seven hits over six innings. Left-hander Adam Kolarek recorded the final two outs for his first save.
David Fletcher had three hits and two RBIs while Jared Walsh had a two-run triple for the Angels, who were eliminated from playoff contention on Friday. Angels pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts.
The Dodgers (42-17) got a scare in the opening inning when leadoff hitter Mookie Betts was hit in the left ribs by a 90-mph sinker from Angels starter Julio Teheran. He eventually scored a run but was taken out of the game as a precaution.
The Dodgers scored three runs on two hits in the first, forcing Teheran into 52 pitches. Cody Bellinger had a bases-loaded walk for a 1-0 lead, Smith had an RBI single and Pederson made it 3-0 on a fielder's choice.
The Angels (26-33) rallied in the third inning. Jahmai Jones had an RBI single, Walsh delivered his two-run triple and Albert Pujols hit a sacrifice fly for a 4-3 advantage against Gonsolin.
Not only did Jones' hit come in his first career at-bat, he was followed by Elliot Soto, who also delivered a single in his first career trip to the plate.
The Dodgers moved back on top quickly in the sixth. Smith worked a leadoff walk and Pederson flipped his two-run shot to the opposite field, just inside the left-field foul pole for a 5-4 lead. His seventh of the season came off Angels right-hander Hansel Robles (0-2).
Rios' eighth home run of the season came in the seventh inning, while Smith's eighth came in the eighth for a 7-4 lead.
The Angels pulled to within a run in the ninth inning on a two-run double by Fletcher off Dodgers left-hander Alex Wood to make it 7-6.
