Owner and general manager Jerry Jones lost his temper with a radio host Tuesday when asked if his 2-5 Dallas Cowboys had a leadership void.
"No," Jones said. But when the hosts of his weekly 105.3 The Fan radio show asked for clarification, he snapped, "Will you shut up and let me answer it? No."
Jones, whose team is allowing a league-worst 34.7 points per game, later apologized for his outburst.
"If I were a little abrupt there, then I really don't want to have our day start that way. You're too good of men for that. This certainly isn't my most tactful time, you might say, with this thing as we discuss these matters. I'm disappointed for our fans. I can't tell you how disappointed I am. It was not the plan at all," Jones said.
"We certainly want to point to things, but they're not excuses. This is football. I'll assure you right now we're going to put our head down. We haven't spent the time, the years, the money, the effort and everything for the Dallas Cowboys to be where we are right now. There will be better days."
The Cowboys have lost starting quarterback Dak Prescott (broken ankle) and his backup, Andy Dalton (concussion), to injuries this month, with rookie Ben DiNucci finishing Sunday's sluggish 25-3 loss at Washington.
DiNucci, a seventh-round pick from James Madison, could make his first start when the Cowboys face the Eagles (2-4-1) on Sunday night in Philadelphia.
