The Los Angeles Angels announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana to a one-year, $8 million deal on Friday.
Quintana, 31, appeared in just four games (one start) last season with the Chicago Cubs after injuring his thumb during summer camp.
He'll bolster an Angels rotation consisting of left-hander Andrew Heaney and right-handers Dylan Bundy, Griffin Canning and Shohei Ohtani. The Angels' rotation recorded the second-worst ERA (5.52) in the majors last season.
Since 2013, Quintana ranks in the Top 10 among left-handed pitchers in starts (second, 224), innings pitched (fourth, 1,352), strikeouts (seventh, 1,225) and wins (eighth, 77).
Quintana has an 83-77 career mark with a 3.73 ERA in 254 appearances (247 starts) with the Chicago White Sox (2012-17) and Cubs (2017-20). He was an American League All-Star in 2016.
