New Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki will be sidelined two weeks with a lower-body injury, the team announced Thursday.
Suzuki, 23, was named the youngest captain in franchise history on Sept. 12. The forward is entering the first season of an eight-year, $63 million contract extension he signed in October 2021.
Suzuki recorded career-high totals in goals (21), assists (40) and points (61) while playing in all 82 games last season.
He has totaled 143 points (49 goals, 94 assists) in 209 career games since making his NHL debut on Oct. 3, 2019.
Defenseman Joel Edmundson is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury, while forwards Josh Anderson (upper body) and Jake Evans (upper body) are considered day-to-day by the team.
