Kyle Schwarber homered twice and J.T. Realmuto hit a tiebreaking three-run blast in the seventh inning as the visiting Philadelphia Phillies pulled away for a 12-5 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday.
Schwarber hit his 35th and 36 home runs, belting a tying two-run shot off New York starter Will Warren in the fifth and a two-run drive off Ian Hamilton in the eighth for an 8-5 lead.
Schwarber notched his 1,000th career hit on his first homer and recorded his 33rd career multi-homer game. He has six home runs in seven games since the All-Star break.
Schwarber's second homer occurred after Philadelphia entered the seventh with a 3-2 deficit after Giancarlo Stanton homered to put the Yankees on top in the sixth. The Phillies quickly began a rally by getting singles from Trea Turner and Schwarber off Tim Hill (3-3).
After Bryce Harper advanced the runners with a groundout to first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, Luke Weaver took over on the mound. Nick Castellanos hit a grounder to Goldschmidt, who was playing slightly off the bag, and the first baseman's throw sailed high and past catcher Austin Wells as Turner scored the tying run.
Following Goldschmidt's third error of the season, Realmuto hammered Weaver's 0-1 changeup into the left field seats for a 6-3 lead.
Bryson Stott contributed a two-run single in a four-run ninth inning for the Phillies, who finished with 14 hits and put up 10 runs in the final three innings. Turner capped the scoring with an RBI triple.
Cody Bellinger and Wells hit solo homers off Philadelphia starter Taijuan Walker in the first two innings. New York's Anthony Volpe homered in the seventh off Jordan Romano before Aaron Judge hit a sacrifice fly to get the Yankees within 6-5.
Walker allowed three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked none.
Tanner Banks (3-2) notched the final out of the sixth before Romano allowed two runs in the seventh. Orion Kerkering pitched the eighth and before Philadelphia's second four-run inning.
Warren gave up two runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. The right-hander struck out seven and walked three.
By taking the opener of a three-game series, the Phillies earned their third win in four games.
The Yankees, who lost for the sixth time in nine games, acquired Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies on Friday to be their everyday third baseman.
