Mike Matheson scored one minute into overtime, giving the visiting Montreal Canadiens a 2-1 victory over the slumping Calgary Flames on Wednesday.
Zach Bolduc also scored for the Canadiens, who have won six of their past seven games.
Montreal goaltender Jakub Dobes made 36 saves in yet another strong outing. He has won all four of his starts this season while allowing only six goals total.
The Canadiens struck quickly in overtime.
Rookie forward Ivan Demidov drew all the attention to himself as he worked to the right circle before he fired a pass across the crease to the open Matheson at the other side. Matheson quickly released a shot that found the mark for his fifth career overtime goal and second tally of the season.
Adam Klapka notched with the lone marker for the Flames, who have lost seven straight outings, six of them in regulation time, and sit next to last in the league standings.
Calgary goalie Dustin Wolf stopped 26 shots for a club that has been held to one goal in each of the past four games and is the league's lowest-scoring team.
Looking for a quick start to kick off their four-game road swing, the Canadiens received it when Bolduc opened the scoring at 17:09 of the first period. During a power play, Bolduc set up shop in the high slot and wired a top-corner one-timer for his fourth goal of the season, all of which have been scored on the road.
With an assist on the tally, Nick Suzuki ran his point-scoring streak to seven games, in which he has netted one goal and 10 assists.
Klapka provided the tying goal for the Flames at 5:56 of the third period. Morgan Frost forced a turnover by Noah Dobson inside the Montreal zone, and Klapka walked in alone before firing a five-hole shot for his first of the campaign.
