New York Jets quarterback Tyrod Taylor didn't reveal much on Thursday when asked about his anticipated role in Sunday's game against the host Cincinnati Bengals.
'I have no anticipation,' he said. 'My mind and my sole focus is being available and ready to be able to lead this team when called upon.'
New York head coach Aaron Glenn cited 'competitive advantage' on Wednesday in declining to say whether he is sticking with a struggling Justin Fields or making a switch to Taylor.
Taylor acknowledged that he is ready to play after receiving a helmet to his knee in the Jets' 13-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
'Yes. I'm listening to the trainers. I've been at practice,' he said. 'Me and Justin have split reps. I'm also still treating it as well.'
Signed to a two-year, $40 million contract with $30 million guaranteed, Fields has failed to deliver results. During the past two losses to Carolina and Denver, he completed a combined 15 of 29 passes for 91 yards and no touchdowns.
Fields, 26, has completed 63.7% of his passes for 845 yards, four TDs and no interceptions in six starts this season.
Taylor, 36, took over in the second half against the Panthers. He has completed 62.3% of his passes this season for 379 yards with three TDs and three picks in three games (one start).
The Jets (0-7) are the lone winless team in the NFL entering the contest against the Bengals (3-4).
