Jack Eichel scored twice in the final five minutes to go with an earlier assist and Pavel Dorofeyev posted two first-period goals as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 6-3 on Tuesday night in Raleigh, N.C.
Brett Howden scored early in the third period and Tomas Hertl had an empty-net goal for the Golden Knights. Ivan Barbashev and Mitch Marner each had two Vegas assists, and Akira Schmid made 21 saves.
Eichel's first goal of the night came with 4:59 left to break a tie following a mishandled puck by the Hurricanes, and he tacked on another with 2:24 remaining. Dorofeyev, with nine goals, has the most through 10 games in Golden Knights history -- one more than Eichel's eight.
Carolina's Andrei Svechnikov and Jordan Martinook each scored their first goals of the season and Logan Stankoven also found the net for the Hurricanes, who played their first home game in more than two weeks following a six-game road trip. Frederik Andersen stopped 29 shots.
Svechnikov opened the scoring 3:46 into the game on a power play, marking just the third Carolina goal in 30 power plays this season. It came two seconds into the extra-man situation off a pass from Sebastian Aho.
Svechnikov had an eventful first period because he also was in the box twice for minor penalties.
Dorofeyev got busy in the first period as well. His first goal of the night came 6:27 into the game. His next one -- with 1:57 left in the period -- was produced on a power play with a blast from just above the right circle.
Dorofeyev has three goals vs. Carolina in two meetings this season.
Martinook scored unassisted with 7:53 remaining in the second period on a breakaway off a Vegas turnover, knotting the score at 2-2.
The Golden Knights outshot Carolina 24-15 through two periods, and Vegas began the third period with 35 seconds remaining on a power play before Carolina killed it off.
Stankoven scored 2:31 into the third period, but Howden countered less than four minutes later.
The Hurricanes activated Shayne Gostisbehere earlier in the day from the injury list. But he left in the second period and was ruled out for the remainder of the game with a lower-body injury.
The Golden Knights defeated Carolina 4-1 last week in Las Vegas.
