Lucas Raymond scored the lone shootout goal and the visiting Detroit Red Wings held off a furious rally by the Los Angeles Kings to pull off a 4-3 victory on Thursday.
Marco Kasper scored two goals, including one on the power play, and Alex DeBrincat added his own power-play tally plus an assist as the Red Wings extended their winning streak to three games.
Detroit goalie Cam Talbot made 35 saves through regulation and overtime, then saved all three Los Angeles attempts in the shootout.
The Kings' Corey Perry and Quinton Byfield scored in a 40-second span late in the third period to force overtime.
Alex Laferriere also scored for the Kings, who saw their points streak end at six games (4-0-2) while falling to 0-2-2 at home. Kevin Fiala recorded two assists, Byfield also had two points and Darcy Kuemper made 24 saves for Los Angeles.
The Kings appeared to win it with 38.7 seconds remaining in overtime when Fiala appeared to score. However, he was ruled to have made contact with Talbot in the crease, and the goal was nullified after a replay review.
The Kings went on the power play with 2:02 remaining in overtime but failed to score.
Detroit coach Todd McLellan won for the first time in two tries at Los Angeles over the past two seasons. He served as the Kings' head coach for five seasons until he was dismissed in 2023-24.
The Kings took a 1-0 lead at 12:39 of the second period on a short-handed goal when Laferriere scored on a breakaway.
Still on the same man advantage, the Red Wings tied it 1-1 when DeBrincat scored on a one-timer from the left circle just 43 seconds after the Kings took the lead.
Less than a minute after scoring, Detroit was on the power play again after Los Angeles' Joel Edmundson was called for cross-checking. On the ensuing power play, Kasper scored at 15:46 of the second when he tipped in a shot from Axel Sandin-Pellikka from in front of the goal.
Kasper delivered again at 14:45 of the third off a pass in front from Mason Appleton, his second of the game and third of the season.
The Kings played without forward Trevor Moore, who was out for personal reasons. Moore is tied for fourth on the team with three goals.
