The Milwaukee Brewers will look to continue their successful road trip behind red-hot Kyle Harrison against the Athletics on Monday in the opener of a three-game series in Las Vegas.
Harrison (7-1, 1.57 ERA) will be opposed by Jeffrey Springs (3-6, 4.37) in a matchup of lefties.
Milwaukee capped a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies in Denver with a 12-4 victory on Sunday to move to a season-high 17 games above .500. Veteran Gary Sanchez had a two-run homer to pace a seven-run sixth inning, when the Brewers erased a 3-1 deficit.
The A's won 5-0 at Houston on Sunday behind rookie left-hander Gage Jump, who allowed three hits over 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Nick Kurtz had a two-run homer and Brent Rooker added a solo shot for the A's, who averted a sweep.
The matchup with the Brewers is the first of two regular-season series in Las Vegas this year for the A's, who are scheduled to move permanently to Las Vegas when their new stadium opens in 2028.
The A's relocated to West Sacramento, Calif., in 2025 for three seasons while the new completely enclosed, climate-controlled stadium opens on the south end of the Las Vegas strip. This season's six-game homestand with the Brewers and then the Rockies is being played at the home of the A's Triple-A affiliate.
Harrison has been a big reason why the Brewers have surged to the top of the National League Central.
The 24-year-old, acquired from Boston during offseason, is 6-0 with an 0.91 ERA in his last seven starts, allowing four runs in 39 2/3 innings.
In his last start, Harrison picked up the win in an 8-3 home victory over San Francisco, the team he broke in with, allowing one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings, matching his career high with 12 strikeouts and walking two in a 106-pitch outing.
'He was a little amped up, a little out of sorts early,' Brewers manager Pat Murphy said following Harrison's last start. 'You could see he was maybe moving too fast, trying too hard, whatever, but he was really good.'
He took a shutout into the sixth inning before allowing a two-out solo homer to Willy Adames, ending Harrison's streak of 23 consecutive scoreless innings.
Harrison's only career appearance against the A's came in relief last season with Boston, allowing three hits over three scoreless innings.
Springs is 0-4 with a 4.98 ERA over his last seven starts, allowing 41 hits in 34 1/3 innings.
After opening the season with a no-decision, Springs won his next three starts, but has not won in nine starts since April 14.
He lasted just 3 2/3 innings his last time out, allowing four runs on seven hits, but did not get the decision in a 5-4 comeback road win over the Cubs in 10 innings, behind 6 1/3 scoreless innings from the bullpen.
'They definitely picked me up huge,' Springs said afterward. 'They've been doing a great job all year. They've had to wear a lot more than they probably should lately, but credit to them. Everybody who came in threw the ball very well. ... I definitely owe them after tonight.'
